With more snow and inclement weather experienced on the West Shore, many of us are wondering if we will ever see spring.
But it continues to be business as usual on many fronts , as we welcome some new business owners and managers to the West Shore.

Another new merchant in the Langford area is Graeme Bryant, who runs Heart Insole and Foot Care Solutions. The Langford Legion will host their annual Spring Craft Fair on Sunday (March 12) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at 761 Station Ave. There will be more than 50 tables of crafts to browse, plus draws for meat as well as a silent auction. For more details, call 250-478-1828.
Coming up at the Legion on March 15 is the next Night Market, running from 6 to 9 p.m. A wide variety of vendors will be featured, offering birdhouses, soaps and jewelry to name a few items.
This weekend there will be a Pop-Up Book Sale at the Kinsmen Fieldhouse down the hill behind the Juan De Fuca Library and the recreation centre, 1767 Island Hwy. From 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday there will be a $3 early bird admission, with prices as marked. On Sunday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., admission into the sale is free and prices are again as marked. Then from 1:15 until 3:15 p.m. admission is $10 for as many books as you can carry out.
The West Shore Chamber of Commerce hosts its monthly mixer Wednesday (March 15) from 5 to 7 p.m. at 328 Taphouse & Grill, 112-328 Wale Rd. beside the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Victoria. Join fellow business Chamber members and mix and mingle over a drink and some amazing food.
Metchosin Community House, 4430 Happy Valley Rd., hosts guest speaker Jim Hindson next Thursday at 7 p.m. He’ll cover the emergence of electric vehicles in his talk, The Greening of Transportation.
The Colwood Womens’ Institute is hosting a garage sale next Saturday (March 18) from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Colwood Community Hall, 2219 Sooke Rd. If you have any items you would like to donate please call 250-391-6628; all of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Womens’ Institute charities.
And on March 19 from 1 to 3 p.m., an apple grafting workshop will take place at Metchosin Community House, courtesy of the Metchosin Pomolgical Society. This year, along with selling apple and pear rootstock for $3 each, the Society will have small packs of 15 mason bees available to purchase. Drop by and meet Garry Fletcher for more information.
